Just Before the Dream

It was just before the dream
the light was poised perfectly
in the glass of red wine
a sax squeaked and squawked on the box
with the sound on the TV off
a crowd mutely struggled
before an open-mouthed man's
silent scream
It was just before the dream

The languid young lady's indolent arm
sends colors swirling
red, blue, green
These colors and others,
strive to flee
but with invisible tension
are held upon the scene
In another, grayer room
the swift, implacable clacking of a loom
where an old woman bends
over her tasks
unseen
No word is spoken
It is just before the dream.
