Poem for Carolyn
It is lavender
and clear
the light through
jungle lattice
below the moon
that gleams from your eye.
Like ivory
or alabaster/smooth malachite
the height of your thigh. . .
still goes my heart
and gaze melts to understanding.
The breath I take in
I hold
and slowly release
in hushed praise
of this work.
Oh, globes of life
to overswing me,
how to declare
the miracle of union?
Through mounds
of heaving earth exultant
the river pulses
without stem or cease.
Woman, I love you . . .
You are the goddess
of this magic.
It is lavender
and clear
the light through
jungle lattice
below the moon
that gleams from your eye.
Like ivory
or alabaster/smooth malachite
the height of your thigh. . .
still goes my heart
and gaze melts to understanding.
The breath I take in
I hold
and slowly release
in hushed praise
of this work.
Oh, globes of life
to overswing me,
how to declare
the miracle of union?
Through mounds
of heaving earth exultant
the river pulses
without stem or cease.
Woman, I love you . . .
You are the goddess
of this magic.
